Britannian Holiday Artwork 2003

Our thanks go out to all the players who submitted screenshots of their wonderful in-game holiday creations. With various in-game items, they were able to create scenes that were both charming and festive.

Without further ado, we are pleased to share some of our favorite submissions with the UO community, along with descriptions from each of the decorators. Here they are, in no particular order:

"Well, the impossible happened--I captured Santa Claus on camera! I knew the cookies and milk would get him to stick around!

"The fireplace was created using cloth, ore, fire-colored plants, and boots for the stockings. The garland is composed of hanging flowers and nightshade. Santa is just a renamed vendor (Yep, I've got a permanent Santa Claus in my tower!). There's a Christmas tree packed with gifts all around it, and plenty of plants, candles, banners, and tapestries to help show the holiday spirit!"

"This is a shot of our holiday trees surrounded by gifts. We used new and old holiday gifts to decorate the room (trees, bells, snow globes, gift boxes, AOS gift clothes, practice weapons, various colored weapons, bag balls, dyed boxes, wreaths, communication crystals, poinsettias and an interior decorator tool). Happy Holidays!"

"This is a screenshot of my home. It was designed to look like it had snow on the ground and on the roof top. I used jewels for Christmas lights, and I put some white plants in there to make it look like they were covered in snow. I used the holiday gifts that were released with Publish 22-everything is from this game."

"Christmas is but a lonely holiday for a fair mage like myself, but the perfect atmosphere in all my favorite hues lightens my spirits. My small castle is located in a dangerous part of the overland near the mountains of Avarice. Though frequently stalked by ogres, ettins, and brigands, the remote location is quite cozy for someone seeking solitude. This Christmas, my only company is my horse Orion and my two gentlemen snowmen, who each hold a rose just for me! The presents under my small tree are for the few acquaintances I have in my guild--and of course, for my horses Orion and Alexander. Perhaps on Christmas Eve I shall be seated as I am now, drinking berry wine and reading a copy of a legendary Christmas story.

"For my small decorating job, I used:

(2) Wreaths
(2) Snowmen
(4) Gift boxes
(4) Black, purple, blue, aqua plants...
(2) AoS roses
(5) Happy Anniversary bags
(8) Piles of wool (for colored snow)
(2) Black cloaks for a tree skirt.
Brightly Colored Eggs to put more blues/cyans/purples into the tree to try and hide the green/red. :)
Also… a book, candelabra, wine goblet, and foot stool"

"My picture symbolizes the holy holiday of Ramadan. Though there are many nights of Ramadan (like Hannukah), I chose one of my favorites. This night is the Night of Feasts. My family and I have individual praying carpets on which we pray on (The carpet is a proper praying object.). Around our carpet we eat dinner, but not any ordinary dinner-it's a large meal to fill us for the following days. The items I used to create this scene are as follows:

"For the shrine, I used candles, oil cloths, a wooden throne, and a pillow. For the eating area, there's a bedroll, corn, lettuce, and plant bowls with no seeds. On the shrine is the Koran (the Islamic bible). Also, I included a prophet--when you recall it says a message: 'Farwell Ramadan,' in Turkish. Since, in the Middle East, it is proper to let all the animals inside during this time of year, I have my horse beside me. And if you look closely, you can see the shoes and cap of an Islamic citizen near the carpet (bed roll)."

"This is my little home. Well, it's not really mine. I simply take care of it. My friend Nick lives here. He is also known as Saint Nick, or more commonly known as Santa Claus. This is Santa's vacation house/personal workshop. Here he works on designs and takes it easy before the "big day." This is actually a rare picture of him in his workshop in December! That's me sitting there in the living area, enjoying some eggnog. I took a peek in those presents-shh, don't tell-and found that Santa's got a lot of new cool designs this year!

"Let me take you on a tour of the first floor area.

"As you enter the front door, you are first greeted by the snowmen. Let me tell you, it's not easy keeping them frozen in this warm area! The seating area (where I am) is a nice place to sit back, kick your feet up and just relax. The tree, of course, is something Santa always wants up. He likes them so much that he had to put one up in his workshop too. To the east of the sitting area is a meeting spot. This is where Santa talks to the head elves about ideas and plans. Along the west wall is where Santa keeps some of his favorite letters from the children of our great land. Back near the steps is a storage area--this guy needs tons of storage, so he has many crates with tools and supplies. And in Santa's actual personal workshop, he keeps a checklist of those that have been good and those that have been bad. I believe he's checking it as we speak!"

"I call this holiday scene: Down the Chimney Came Old Saint Nick.

"I created it with: cut-up pieces of cloth, snowmen, gift boxes, wooden benches, communication crystals, poinsettias, piles of snow, logs, boards, kindling, gold, shadow iron ore, birthday bell, jointing planes, wreaths, special fishing nets, jewels, my faithful steed, and me."

"What's a holiday without some delicious baked goods to warm up a home? Among the vivid poinsettias, pies, cakes, and cookies have been set out for visitors to enjoy. A tree in the southeast corner, surrounded by colorful gifts, provides the perfect spot where friends can gather and share stories of the past year. Various wreaths, each adorned with a bright, festive ribbon add a charming touch to this holiday setting."

"When you first step into Santa's Malas home, you are surrounded by beautiful Christmas trees, smiling snow people, and Sonoma citizens (vendors), who have come to visit Santa. The first floor has a workshop for Santa's little elves, who are busy filling Christmas wishes.

"Upon entering the second floor, you'll find Santa sitting in a cozy corner with a fireplace made of granite rock, with boys and girls (vendors) who are patiently waiting to tell him of their wishes. Music is being played softly on harps, lutes and a drum, and Queen Mum is busy handing out homemade cookies, cakes, and pitchers of milk along with a fireworks wand for each girl and boy.

"The floor is decorated with white snowdrops beneath red whispering roses, along with snow globes and bells to help lead the way. Aligning the walls are soft, gentle wreaths and fur boot stockings done in reds and greens with brightly colored eggs to anchor them. A tree with opened presents underneath stands tall beside Santa as you head up the stairs."
